As per sources cited by the Financial Times and Bloomberg, Cantor Fitzgerald is nearing the final stages of a transaction to acquire around 30,000 BTC, Bitcoin currently valued at approximately $3.5 billion.
This acquisition is planned through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) known as Cantor Equity Partners 1, which raised $200 million in January 2025. The SPAC is set to merge with Blockstream Capital in exchange for Bitcoin assets and equity stakes.
Blockstream Capital, founded by Adam Back, is known for its innovative Bitcoin-related ventures and technology. The reported deal involves Blockstream contributing up to 30,000 BTC in exchange for shares in Cantor Equity Partners 1. Post-transaction, this SPAC would be rebranded as BSTR Holdings.
Moreover, Cantor Fitzgerald plans to raise an additional $800 million from outside investors to boost Bitcoin purchases further, pushing the total acquisition amount even higher.
If finalized, this deal would elevate Cantor Fitzgerald into the ranks of the top institutional Bitcoin holders globally. Combining its Bitcoin holdings across BSTR Holdings and another vehicle, Twenty One Capital, the firm’s crypto purchases could reach nearly $10 billion in 2025.
This comes after a significant $3.6 billion crypto partnership Cantor Fitzgerald formed earlier this year with SoftBank and Tether to create a dedicated Bitcoin acquisition company.
Brandon Lutnick, who took over as chairperson in February, is aggressively positioning Cantor Fitzgerald to leverage Bitcoin as a core asset. His leadership coincides with his father’s influential role as US Commerce Secretary, signaling a deepening relationship between traditional finance and crypto assets.
Put simply, Adam Back is widely considered to be a legendary figure in Bitcoin’s history.

His pioneering work on Hashcash in 1997 laid the cryptographic foundation that Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, later used to build Bitcoin’s PoW (Proof-of-Work) system. Blockstream Capital, under his leadership, has become a key player in Bitcoin technology development and trading.
Cantor Fitzgerald is acquiring approximately 30,000 Bitcoins from Blockstream Capital through a SPAC merger, worth around $3.5 billion.
The acquisition is facilitated through Cantor Equity Partners 1, a SPAC that raised $200 million, with plans to raise an additional $800 million from external investors.
This deal could place Cantor Fitzgerald among the largest institutional Bitcoin holders worldwide, highlighting growing institutional interest in Bitcoin.
