Tether Gold (XAUt) is experiencing record growth as gold prices soar in 2025.
Backed by 7.66 tons of gold and circulating over 259,000 tokens, XAUt’s market cap exceeds $800 million.
Central banks and institutional investors are fueling global gold demand amid economic uncertainty and inflation fears.
Tether Gold is accessible through major crypto exchanges and is expanding its reach through new blockchain integrations.
As a digital asset backed by a time-tested commodity, XAUt offers a unique bridge between traditional finance and decentralized technology.
Tether Gold is a digital token backed by physical gold reserves.
Each token represents one troy ounce of fine gold held in a Swiss vault, and it combines the benefits of blockchain technology, portability, divisibility, and transparency, with the intrinsic value of one of history’s most trusted assets.
Backed by 7.66 tons of physical bullion as of Q2 2025, according to Tether’s latest attestation report verified by BDO Italia, XAUt supports over 259,000 tokens in circulation. This equates to a market cap exceeding $800 million, reflecting surging demand.
In a shift from decades of being net sellers, central banks globally accumulated over 1,000 metric tons of gold in 2024, marking the third straight year surpassing this threshold, according to the World Gold Council (WGC).

Christopher Gannatti, Global Head of Research at WisdomTree, remarked:
“This is not normal. Now they’re stockpiling again.”
Gannatti points to a rise in geopolitical risks and currency weaponization, making gold a preferred hedge that “travels well across borders and regimes.”
Gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw inflows of $38 billion in the first half of 2025, the strongest showing in five years. These inflows added 397.1 metric tons of gold to ETF holdings, fueled by inflation fears, ongoing trade conflicts, and economic uncertainty.
The resurgence in gold’s popularity among institutional investors coincides with growing skepticism toward fiat currencies and concerns over monetary policy direction, particularly in the U.S.
Economists like Peter Schiff highlight inflation as a major catalyst. With tariffs and supply chain disruptions driving prices higher, the Federal Reserve has hinted at delaying interest rate cuts, further enhancing gold’s role as a hedge against economic instability.
Preston Caldwell, Senior U.S. Economist at Morningstar, said:
“We’ve delayed our expectations of rate cuts.”
While Bitcoin is often dubbed “digital gold,” Tether Gold offers a blockchain-native asset with direct exposure to physical gold. Its increasing adoption across crypto exchanges highlights its rising relevance.
Tether Gold (XAUt) is listed on major crypto exchanges including:
Bitfinex
Bybit
KuCoin
BingX
The token recently expanded its footprint into Thailand via Maxbit Exchange, enhancing its global accessibility.
In addition, Tether’s USDT0 liquidity network launched an omnichain version of XAUt on The Open Network (TON), extending its interoperability and future-proofing its utility across various blockchain ecosystems.
Tether Gold’s price action has mirrored that of physical bullion, rising by over 40% in the past 12 months, according to Bloomberg.

This positions it as a strong alternative for investors seeking inflation resistance, portfolio diversification, and digital asset utility without sacrificing the safety of gold ownership.
Tether Gold is a tokenized commodity representing ownership of physical gold stored in Swiss vaults. Each token corresponds to one troy ounce of fine gold.
While both are blockchain-based, XAUt is backed by physical gold, offering real-world collateral, whereas Bitcoin is not asset-backed and derives value from scarcity and adoption.
Tether Gold is available on major crypto exchanges like Bitfinex, KuCoin, Bybit, BingX, and Thailand’s Maxbit exchange.
Tether Gold is less volatile than most cryptocurrencies, as its price closely tracks the spot price of gold. However, like all assets, it can experience fluctuations.
Rising geopolitical tensions, inflation, and a move away from U.S. dollar dependence have led central banks to increase gold holdings as a stable store of value.
