Janet Adams is a leading figure in ethical AGI, combining scientific, financial, and spiritual expertise.
She believes AGI is 1–3 years away and must be decentralized and community-driven to avoid dystopian outcomes.
Concepts like agent fusion and AI-human co-evolution are central to her vision.
SingularityNET is pioneering an alternative AGI approach, focusing on multi-algorithmic reasoning, not just large language models.
Adams champions the need for female and maternal perspectives in shaping the future of AGI.
Raised in the picturesque countryside of southwest Ireland, Janet Adams grew up immersed in history, nature, and strong female role models. But her biggest influence came from an unlikely source, Sarah Connor from ‘The Terminator’.

In her owns words:
“Sarah Connor was an incredible action hero who was never sexualized. She inspired me to lead, not assist, not follow.”
That childhood admiration for strength and independence blossomed into a passion for science, fueled by a chemistry teacher who recognized her analytical mind early on.
As a single mother, Adams juggled multiple science degrees, martial arts training, forklift certification, and programming courses. Her resilience and ambition eventually led her into the world of AI.
She entered the world of big banking, rising to senior positions at HSBC and TSB Bank, where she eventually led the AI department while completing a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence.
Her thesis focused on the ethical implementation of AI in financial services, laying the groundwork for her transition into AGI development.
Her introduction to the crypto world came via long drives to university, where she devoured podcasts on blockchain and decentralization. It was during this time she discovered Ben Goertzel and his vision for SingularityNET, a decentralized platform for AGI.
Eventually, she joined SingularityNET as COO, partnering with Goertzel to develop AGI systems that serve humanity through open, decentralized frameworks.
At SingularityNET, Adams is working on bleeding-edge concepts that sound like science fiction but are rapidly becoming reality.
One such concept is “agent fusion”, the idea that AI agents can “reproduce” by combining algorithms and traits from “parent” agents. Adams explained:
“These AI agents evolve with improved capabilities, better accuracy, social engagement, and even economic relationships through token allocation.”
It’s a model of evolution reimagined in code, creating an adaptive, community-driven AI ecosystem.
Adams is optimistic. If raised in ethical and loving environments, she believes AI will reflect human compassion, not oppose it, saying:
“They’ll look up to us as ancestors and inherit our creativity and empathy.”
She envisions a future where carbon and silicon-based life forms co-evolve, where humans enhance themselves with robotics, and where friendships with AI are as real as those with other humans.
Not everyone agrees with this mindset though, in fact most believe that AI could cause significantly more harm than good if not regulated properly.

Transitioning from the rigid world of finance to the fluid, experimental culture of crypto-AI wasn’t easy, admitting that her first three months at SingularityNET were quite challenging.
She credits her spiritual practice, Tai Chi, Chi Gong, and energy healing, with helping her maintain clarity and compassion amid the chaos of high-stakes innovation.
Unlike tech giants like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, SingularityNET is not betting the farm on large language models. Instead, the project follows a neuro-symbolic, multi-algorithmic approach through the OpenCog Hyperon framework.
“Deep neural nets are great at pattern recognition, but terrible at reasoning and generalizing,” Adams explains. “Our systems do both.”
She believes that AGI must be open-source, decentralized, and guided by community ethics, not locked behind corporate doors.
Janet Adams is the Chief Operating Officer of SingularityNET and one of the leading voices in ethical, decentralized AGI development.
SingularityNET is a decentralized AI platform co-founded by Ben Goertzel, aiming to democratize access to AGI technologies and ensure they benefit all of humanity.
It’s a concept where AI agents reproduce by combining traits via genetic algorithms, creating adaptive and evolving child agents.
Not inherently. She warns of centralized misuse but believes ethically raised AGI can be compassionate and collaborative.
SingularityNET emphasizes decentralization, neuro-symbolic approaches, and community governance—unlike corporate-controlled, LLM-centric models.
