Alchemy AgentCard Adds Mastercard Credentials So Agents Can Buy Anywhere Cards Work

The agent can find the flight. The merchant still wants a card number. Alchemy just gave the agent a disposable one that still sits on your Mastercard — with a proof of what you actually authorized.

On 17 September 2026, Alchemy announced that AgentCard will support Mastercard payment credentials through Mastercard Agent Pay. The product already provisioned agents with identity (email, phone), a self-custodial stablecoin wallet, and now one-time-use Mastercard credentials for online merchants that still settle on card rails. Users and issuers set purchase limits, merchant categories, and where transactions are allowed. AgentCard is designed to support Verifiable Intent — Mastercard’s framework for proving the agent acted inside the user’s authorized instructions.

The mechanism

AgentCard is not “crypto replaces Visa.” It is a dual stack:

1. Stablecoin wallet — agents pay machine-native endpoints (inference, APIs, x402-style flows) in USDC without inventing a new account for every seller.
2. One-time Mastercard credentials — tokenized, linked to the user’s existing Mastercard via Agent Pay, so DoorDash / Amazon / travel / subscriptions that only speak card can still clear. Rewards, credit line, and card benefits stay with the underlying card; the agent does not mint a permanent PAN to paste into every checkout.
3. Controls — purchase limits, category allow/deny, geography. Issuer and user share the brake.
4. Verifiable Intent — a tamper-resistant record tying identity, instructions, and outcome so a reviewer can see what was approved, under what conditions, and by whom.

Alchemy’s CLI claim: provision AgentCard in under a minute. Consumers can also sign up at AgentCard.ai. Businesses can embed the stack or ship the ready-made experience. Alchemy previously wired AgentCard to Visa Intelligent Commerce (June 2026 announcement); Thursday’s peg is the Mastercard credential path going live for everyday agentic purchases.

Do not invent volume. The pressroom does not publish how many AgentCard agents cleared Mastercard last week. The so-what is the rail: agents stop dying at “this merchant only takes cards.”

What the numbers mean

• One CLI / under a minute — onboarding claim, not GMV.
• One-time credentials — the security product is ephemerality + issuer controls, not “agent has your real card forever.”
• Dual rail — machine commerce stays onchain/stablecoin where the seller speaks it; legacy checkout stays on Mastercard where it doesn’t. Operators who only ship x402 still lose every Amazon-shaped cart.

The operator lesson

If you are wiring an agent that already spends USDC on x402 catalogs (Circle Discovery, Heurist, ProBlocks-style ping endpoints), AgentCard is the missing half: the same agent can clear a card merchant without dumping a reusable PAN into the model context. Set limits before you fund. Treat Verifiable Intent as the audit trail you will need when finance asks “who bought that.”
