Direct Influence
The Constitution will take full effect on February 23rd, 2025, and will allow ADA holders to directly influence Cardano’s future development.
The ratification follows months of community input and discussions, with strong support from Delegated Representatives (DReps) and the Constitutional Committee. This comes after the Plomin upgrade on January 29th, 2025, which completed the transition to fully operational on-chain governance.
Enhancing Governance
This latest milestone sets the foundation for Cardano’s on-chain governance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and clear rules. Cardano’s governance journey began with the Chang Hard Fork in April 2024, which introduced on-chain voting.
The second phase, the Plomin Upgrade, empowers ADA holders and DReps to direct technical changes and manage Treasury withdrawals through a new governance model. This shift moves governance from IOG, the Cardano Foundation, and EMURGO to the community.
