Consensys Convinces SEC To Drop MetaMask Case

Consensys has reached an "in principle" agreement with the U.S. SEC to dismiss the enforcement case against MetaMask. The case will be officially closed once approved by the SEC Commission.

Back & Forth

The SEC filed a lawsuit against Consensys in June 2024, accusing the company of selling unregistered securities through MetaMask and promoting staking programs from Lido and Rocket Pool.

This came after Consensys had filed its own lawsuit against the regulatory agency back in April, seeking clarity on Ethereum (ETH) and MetaMask. Looking ahead, Consensys plans to focus on development.

Working With The SEC

The SEC’s decision to dismiss the case aligns with its recent trend of dropping lawsuits against crypto firms, including Coinbase, OpenSea, Gemini, Uniswap Labs, and Robinhood Crypto.

The agency is also negotiating a settlement with Justin Sun, founder of TRON, over allegations of unregistered securities sales and market manipulation.
