OpenAI launched image generation for its ChatGPT-4o model on March 25th, prompting a surge in Ghibli-themed content, with anime classics like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro serving as inspiration.

Both Sam Altman and Elon Musk joined the trend, posting AI-generated Ghibli portraits. Musk, with over 219 million followers on platform X, is known for influencing meme coins like Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE).

$20.8M Market Cap

The Ghibli-themed token, Ghiblification (GHIBLI), has surged to a $20.80 million market cap since launching 19 hours ago, with a 39,010% increase. At least 20 other Ghibli-related meme coins have also emerged since then.

This follows the trend of meme coins born from cultural references, like CHILLGUY, which peaked at a $643 million market cap in November before dropping 95% in value.
