Memecoin profits mostly benefit infrastructure platforms, not the average trader.
Launchpads like Pump.fun and tools like Axiom dominate revenue generation through trading fees and token launches.
Median hold times for memecoins are under 2 minutes, reflecting a high-frequency, bot-driven market.
Despite lacking utility, memecoins continue to see billions in trading volume and hundreds of millions in fees.
Memecoins have long been considered a gateway into the crypto world. Their viral nature and low entry costs appeal to new users.
However, Galaxy Research’s 2025 report reveals that the booming activity around memecoins primarily benefits:
Token launchpads
Decentralized exchanges
Automated trading bots
These platforms are raking in millions in fees, while most users walk away with losses.
A standout example in the report is Pump.fun, a memecoin launchpad built on Solana.

Since launching in early 2024, it has:
Facilitated over 13 million token launches, up nearly 300% in under two years
Amassed a $4.8 billion fully diluted market cap across all tokens
Become one of the most profitable platforms in the memecoin space
According to Galaxy, “The platform has simply industrialized token creation on Solana.”
Most human traders are not the primary beneficiaries. In fact, the median hold time for memecoins on Solana has dropped to just 100 seconds, down from 300 seconds a year ago, a clear sign of bot dominance.
Axiom: Generated over $200 million in fees with a lean team of under 10 employees.
BONKbot and Trojan: These tools charge users to automatically snipe new tokens, ensuring fast entry and exit, often ahead of regular traders.

These platforms have turned memecoin speculation into a lucrative infrastructure business.
Even though memecoins offer little in the way of real-world utility, they continue to attract both creators and speculators.
In July, Pump.fun launched its own token, PUMP, raising $500 million in under 12 minutes. The offering consisted of 125 billion tokens, underlining the massive appetite for memecoin-related investments, despite the clear risks.
In a single week (August 11th–17th), Pump.fun generated $13.48 million, its highest weekly revenue since February. By mid-September, it was processing over $1 billion in daily trading volume, according to DefiLlama.
Over the past 30 days alone, Pump.fun has generated an estimated $120 million in platform fees.
For the average retail trader, memecoins are increasingly difficult to profit from due to the rise of bots and high-speed trading platforms that dominate early access and volume.
Pump.fun earns by taking fees on every token launch and trade on its platform. As the number of tokens launched grows, so does its revenue.
According to Galaxy Research, the median holding time has dropped to just 100 seconds, highlighting how fast-paced and speculative the memecoin market has become.
Memecoins can be a fun introduction to crypto but come with high risk. Most users lose money, and profits are increasingly going to platforms, not individual traders.
