Reducing Enforcement Actions

If confirmed, Atkins, a former SEC commissioner (2002-2008) and founder of Patomak Global Partners, is expected to reduce enforcement actions and simplify the process for private companies to go public, especially in relation to the crypto industry.

Atkins’ confirmation hearing will coincide with reviews of Jonathan Gould, nominated to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and Luke Pettit, nominated for assistant secretary of financial institutions at the U.S. Treasury.

A Different Approach

The SEC has already been shifting its approach under Uyeda in 2025, dropping over 10 crypto enforcement cases, including those involving Kraken and Robinhood.

Additionally, the SEC recently decided not to pursue its appeal in the Ripple lawsuit and clarified that Proof-of-Work mining does not fall under U.S. securities laws.
