Solana TPS Hits 100K In Stress Test

Solana achieved over 100K transactions per second (TPS) during a stress test. While this shows technical potential, real-world implications are more nuanced.
Solana Transaction Spike

Key Takeaways

  • Solana TPS reached 107,540 during a stress test using noop transactions.

  • These transactions don’t represent real-world activity, but demonstrate potential capacity.

  • Real Solana TPS is closer to 1,000–1,050, when excluding validator votes and noop calls.

  • Solana’s on-chain activity is heavily driven by memecoin trading, particularly on Pump.fun.

  • SOL token remains volatile, tracking closely with broader crypto market movements.

Solana Hits 100,000+ TPS

Over the weekend, Solana’s mainnet experienced an extraordinary burst in performance, crossing the 100K TPS mark.

The spike was recorded during a period of heavy noop (no-operation) program calls, which are lightweight transactions used primarily for stress-testing purposes.

What Are Noop Transactions?

Noop program calls are essentially transactions that include instructions without performing any real computation or changing the blockchain state.

Solana requires every transaction to contain at least one instruction, so these noop calls are a method of simulating load without real activity.

Mert Mumtaz, co-founder of Helius, a Solana development tooling firm, said:

“Solana became the first major blockchain to record 100,000 TPS on mainnet.”

According to Mumtaz, one particular block included 43,016 successful transactions and 50 failed ones, estimating a peak of 107,540 TPS.

Theoretical Vs. Real Solana TPS

Why The Real TPS Is Lower

Despite the impressive number, these TPS figures don’t directly reflect actual blockchain usage. According to Solscan, Solana’s total TPS sits around 3,700, but there’s a catch.

Voting Transactions Inflate Numbers

Roughly two-thirds of these transactions are validator vote transactions, which are part of Solana’s consensus mechanism. Validators cast multiple votes per slot, which artificially inflates the network’s TPS.

According to Chainspect and Solscan, real user-facing TPS on Solana, which includes meaningful actions like transfers and smart contract interactions, is closer to 1,000–1,050 TPS.

Solana’s Activity Still Dominated By Memecoins

Solana’s transaction volume and on-chain activity are still heavily influenced by memecoin projects.

Pump.fun Leads the Charge

The memecoin minting and trading platform Pump.fun remains Solana’s most active application, accounting for over 62% of total value locked (TVL) on the network, as per Solscan data.

Despite this, Solana’s DeFi ecosystem has been growing steadily, reaching $10.7 billion TVL,  nearing its January all-time high.

SOL Price Movement Amid High TPS Headlines

Solana’s native token, SOL, saw a minor dip over the weekend. It fell from $208 to $187, even as the network set a new TPS milestone.

Currently priced at $181.27, SOL is still down about 36% from its all-time high of $293 (January 2025), according to CoinGecko.

FAQ

What is Solana TPS?

Solana TPS refers to the number of transactions the Solana blockchain can process per second. It measures throughput and network performance.

Did Solana really process 100,000 transactions per second?

Yes — but only temporarily and during a stress test using noop program calls, which don’t involve meaningful computation. It’s a benchmark of theoretical capacity, not day-to-day performance.

What is Solana’s actual TPS in real-world use?

According to Solscan and Chainspect, real-world Solana TPS — excluding validator votes and noop transactions — is around 1,000–1,050 TPS.

Why are vote transactions included in TPS stats?

Solana’s consensus mechanism requires validators to submit frequent vote transactions. These are technically transactions, but they don’t involve user interaction or dApps, hence skewing TPS figures upward.

Is Solana faster than other blockchains?

Solana is among the fastest blockchains in theoretical terms. In practice, while its real TPS outpaces Ethereum and Bitcoin, it’s closer to 1,000 TPS under typical loads.
