The Ethereum Foundation has launched the dAI Team to create a settlement layer for AI agents and the machine economy.
Led by Davide Crapis, the team will focus on developing the ERC-8004 standard to enable AI agents to be discoverable, verifiable, and transactable on Ethereum.
The dAI Team aims to promote decentralized AI alternatives and prevent centralized monopolies in AI development.
Ethereum’s neutrality, verifiability, and censorship resistance values make it an ideal platform for AI agents and machine-to-machine transactions.
The Ethereum Foundation will collaborate with Silicon Valley companies and release job listings to boost the project’s development.
The Ethereum Foundation is taking a bold step into the future by creating the dAI Team to foster the next wave of blockchain innovation, artificial intelligence.
With AI’s growing impact on industries worldwide, Ethereum aims to become the core settlement layer for AI transactions, ensuring that the blockchain will facilitate machine-to-machine interactions in a decentralized, transparent, and verifiable manner.
The dAI Team will work to achieve two critical goals:
Empowering AI Agents: Allowing AI agents and robots to transact, coordinate, and follow protocols without relying on centralized intermediaries.
Promoting Decentralized AI: Creating an ecosystem where AI development does not depend on centralized platforms, thus promoting open, verifiable, and censorship-resistant alternatives for the AI industry.
This initiative is in line with the Ethereum Foundation’s long-standing commitment to decentralization and open-source principles, allowing Ethereum to be the neutral backbone for the evolving AI and machine economy.
Davide Crapis, the lead research scientist of the dAI Team, shared his vision of integrating AI with Ethereum in a recent post. He emphasized that AI will be an integral part of humanity’s future and Ethereum’s evolution.

According to Crapis, Ethereum is not just a platform for decentralized finance anymore; it’s positioning itself as the future settlement layer for AI agents and the broader machine economy.
A key component of the dAI Team’s work will be the development of ERC-8004, a standard designed to ensure AI agents are discoverable, verifiable, and transactable on the Ethereum network. The Ethereum Foundation expects to finalize this standard by November, with a presentation at Devconnect in Buenos Aires.
Additionally, the dAI Team will work on other related standards and provide support to open-source projects that address agent identity, reputation, and coordination. By doing so, they aim to make AI more interoperable and effective across different decentralized networks.
The Ethereum Foundation has consistently emphasized its core values of neutrality, verifiability, and censorship resistance, all of which are crucial for the reliable operation of AI agents in decentralized environments.

Ethereum makes AI more trustworthy, while AI in turn makes Ethereum even more valuable by expanding its use cases into machine-to-machine transactions.
In order to accelerate the development of this AI settlement layer, the Ethereum Foundation plans to release job listings and research collaboration opportunities. The dAI Team will work closely with Silicon Valley companies to bring the necessary expertise, research, and funding to make Ethereum the foundation for decentralized AI.
The goal is to establish Ethereum as the leading infrastructure for the machine-to-machine economy, enabling the seamless interaction of AI agents across different industries and sectors.
The dAI Team is a dedicated group within the Ethereum Foundation focused on integrating artificial intelligence with Ethereum’s blockchain. The team is developing systems that allow AI agents to transact and interact in a decentralized, transparent, and secure manner.
The ERC-8004 standard is a technical framework being developed by the dAI Team to ensure AI agents are discoverable, verifiable, and can perform transactions across the Ethereum network.
Ethereum will act as a settlement layer for AI, providing a decentralized and censorship-resistant infrastructure for AI agents to interact. This will ensure that AI development can thrive outside of centralized platforms, offering more transparency and security.
The Ethereum Foundation plans to foster collaboration by releasing job openings, research resources, and forming partnerships with leading companies in the AI and blockchain space.
