Following much anticipation and a plethora of delays, Ethereum Foundation developers have revealed that the upcoming Merge could happen in about two months from now. Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko announced via a conference call that the networks transition to PoS (Proof-of-Stake) was now tentatively scheduled for the new date of September 19th, 2022. The new estimate was met with no opposition from other core developers and it is being said that the goal now is to ensure that this timeline is maintained and no more significant delays occur. However, it is important to note that this new date is not finalized and that the announcement should be seen as a planning timeline instead. Still, after the success of both the Sepolia and Ropsten testnets, it does seem likely that Ethereum will initiate the Merge sooner rather than later.
