Tensions With Elon
CEO Sam Altman is gathering feedback on the project, though it’s unclear if it’ll be a standalone app or part of ChatGPT, which recently topped global downloads.

The move follows recent tensions with Elon Musk, who made a $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI in February. Altman replied: “No thank you, but we will buy X (Twitter) for $9.74 billion if you want.”
Still A Ways To Go
OpenAI’s social network could rival Meta, which is reportedly adding a social feed to its upcoming AI assistant app. After that news broke, Altman quipped on X: “OK, maybe we’ll do a social app.”
A social platform would give OpenAI access to real-time user data for training models, just like Musk’s Grok and Meta’s Llama.
Though still early, the project signals OpenAI’s intent to scale fast and compete in the social AI space.
